Maude Pervere has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all her life. The majority of her images were made within 50 miles of home. Her abstract work includes SALT (2010 – present), Chinese Fountain (2012), From a Distance (2010), Shadow Studies (2009-present), Aerials (2006-08), Scrap (2004-05) and Waterworks (2004-05). Her most recent work involves experiments in printing on rice papers using alternative printing techniques. As she and her family are inveterate travelers, her work also includes images from around the world.
Though Pervere has been making photographs since she was a teen, her first career was in law. She served initially as a Public Defender, then taught for more than 25 years at Hastings, U.C. Berkeley (Boalt Hall) and Stanford Law Schools. Pervere retired from Stanford Law School in 2005.
